They’re making fun of us

The media, unbelievers…you name it…they are making fun of us. Just watch a reality show, of all the christians they could put on to represent that segment they find the most outrageous (and out of touch) person they can find.

Stop giving them so much ammunition. I went back and forth of whether or not to even post this video…but I think we need to see it; in this case especially those involved in TV ministry. Try not to get defensive, try to realize you are seeing it the way they are seeing it.

Pay attention to one comment this video received, it says it so well:

it may be a fact or truth 4 u, but its confusing 2 others. Im not saying avoid biblical questions, but there’s a right + wrong way to talk 2 people about other beliefs

I’m not in TV, I don’t know any of these guys…but I am in the business of changing the way the Church communicates and it must include an understanding of not only what you are saying but what they are hearing.

Ok…brace yourself, prepare to be made fun of, maybe even insulted…but allow it to make you a better communicator.

dang, i wish i could write like you. seriously!

but i can still bang on things real loud!

i do have one little feedback

it is NOT just a TV thing. it is a Christian thing. we come across as freaks.

    here is another example.

    Praying for Rain on Obama

please know, as a TV guy what i have done in the past bothers me to no end. i don’t know if i rationalize this but real and effective change only happens from within - and there are a few of us that are trying! of course, we are up against years of pride, religion, control and….MONEY!

take the guy with a bullhorn preaching hell on a street corner. hell is real, i know i have lived in the Midwest (sorry i could not resist) but people walk by saying to themselves “if i become a Christian will i end up like that guy?”, from the chicken people to the laughers. we’re freaks!

part of us should be, we should be freaks in the way we put others before us. but we need to get away from the circus side show exhibits of magic that help build our country clubs!

You’re absolutely right Mark, it’s not just a TV thing. It happens on the streets, in churches, all around us. The guy on the corner is the least of my worries…most just mark him off as crazy.

TV happens to be extremely visible…which is great if you’re doing it right, catastrophe when it’s done wrong.

In the church, you can easily turn someone off in one visit…with something you think is great. But if you pay attention to the translation, you could be a catalyst for a changed life.

We need to step back and see the translation - the way our actions, words, marketing is received. And yes…stop the circus side show.
